A message from Tina at New Yorks Cares:

New York Cares Day 2010 was a huge success and I thank you for being a part
of such a great day of service and for coming to work on a Saturday!
Thousands of volunteers spread out over 100 public schools all across the
city to give them what they need to create inspiring learning environments.
And everyone single volunteer from Team Harlem absolutely loved your school!

In just one day, volunteers painted and re-touched murals in the playground
and library; worked in the garden by raking, weeding, and planting bulbs;
cleaned storage spaces, etc.

PS 208 partnered with New York Cares for a very special afternoon.  Volunteers visited Alain L. Locke Elementary to paint a beautiful new mural on our playground and play kickball with students.  Watch students help the volunteers warm up!

Staff members from Alain L. Locke Elementary participated in New York Cares Hands on New York Day this past Saturday.  Working at a local park, PS 208 staff cleaned out an overgrown garden, planted new bushes and spread grass seed.  Thank you to everyone who came out to support our community!

From fifth grade reporter Chance:

 This past Saturday, New York Cares and several kids from PS 208 went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to do a scavenger hunt.  We saw a real Egyptian Temple from long ago.  We saw a realistic shark that was modern art.  It was so amazing with some cool exhibits!

Basketball Clinic is lots of fun!  The volunteers from New York Cares teach us the fundamentals of basketball.  We run drills and have a great time.  Students go to Basketball Clinic every other Saturday.  In basketball clinic we show our competitive side and have fun doing it!
