In fourth grade science afterschool we’re learning about metamorphosis. For example, a tadpole doesn’t look like its parents. Another example is how a caterpillar doesn’t look like its parents. Also, a baby mouse doesn’t look like its parents. Those are all examples of metamorphosis.

Alain L. Locke Elementary hosted a school-wide celebration of Earth Day this past April. Students shared their feelings about Mother Earth and watched portions of a documentary all about dirt. DIRT! The Movie, tells the amazing and little known story of the relationship between humans and living dirt.

Students at Alain L. Locke Elementary School visited the New York Historical Society’s exhibition on Lincoln in New York. Using items in the galleries as primary source documents, students examined and analyzed illustrations and portraits of the 16th president. Located on the Upper West Side, this museum has many family friendly exhibits and programs.
