So what’s going on in the art class today? Word around the campfire is that we are drawing our self-portraits as Civil War soldiers. My favorite part was when we got to draw the hair and when we had to glue on the clothing.

In art class fourth graders are drawing self-portraits of our selves as a Native American. I learned how to draw a face by myself. I learned how to draw a nose, mouth, eyes and ears. We drew like this because we are trying to imagine ourselves as Native Americans.

Next Thursday, March 25th students from all grades will be performing dance and music selections based on their social studies unit of study. A visual art exhibition will also be on display. Alain L. Locke’s Fifth Grade Ballroom Dance Showcase was an overwhelming success! Families and fellow students watched as the fifth grade performed the foxtrot, merengue, swing and many more. The event finished with audience participation that had everyone on their feet. Thank you for coming out to support our students!

This winter the 5th grade at Alain L. Locke is taking part in a ballroom dance residency! Students are learning the moves to dances such as the polka, waltz, swing, fox trot, rumba, and merengue. Stay tuned for details about our March 10th performance.
