Museum of the City of New York

Third grade students from Alain L. Locke Elementary attended a field trip to the Museum of the City of New York. Participating in “The Grid” program, students were able to explore the impact of urban planning in their own communities. Topics addressed by museum educators included the importance of institutions such as parks, libraries, and small businesses.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences will be from 1PM-3PM and 5:30-8PM on March 16, 2010 at Alain L. Locke. This day will be a half day for all students with dismissal taking place at 12PM. Use this opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers and pick up their most recent report card!

ELA Test Prep Workshop

A Test Prep workshop will be held at Alain L. Locke Elementary on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 9AM. The New York State English Language Arts exam will be given from April 26^th to April 28^th to all students at PS 208. Please join us to learn more about how you can help you children prepare!

Ballroom Dance Performance

The fifth grade will be performing selections from their ballroom dance residency this Friday, March 12, 2010. This performance will take place at 9:30AM in the PS 208 Auditorium. Come out and support our fifth graders!

PETCO Field Trip

Third and fifth grade students at Alain L. Locke Elementary attended a field trip to PETCO. Students were able to interact with the animals on-site and learn about different habitats. The educators at PETCO answered questions and provided a wealth of information about various reptiles, rodents, and fish.

Native American Dancing

From fourth grade reporter Fatima:

This year my class has been doing Native American dancing. I have been learning a lot of new dances and activities. One thing that I learned is that there is a special face mask and an amazing story to go with it. We will be having our performance on March 25, 2010. Come learn more about Native American dancing!

Book Fair

Alain L. Locke Elementary is holding a book fair next week. From March 8^th to March 12^th parents are invited to come in to purchase books. Students will have an opportunity to visit the book fair with their class. Help us reach our goal of selling $2000 worth of books by supporting PS 208’s annual book fair!

Ice Skating in Central Park

From fifth grade reporter Maurae:

On a Saturday this past January students from Alain L. Locke went to Central Park’s ice skating rink for an urban adventure. They got to meet many young adults while they skated. This was an opportunity for people to get along and learn to skate from each other. Also, this was time to spend with classmates students do not usually see outside of Alain L. Locke.

Students vs. Staff Basketball Game

This past February the Locke Lions challenged the staff of Alain L. Locke Elementary to a basketball game. In a close match that ended in overtime, the staff of PS 208 was victorious. The Locke Lions can’t wait for a rematch!
