Alain L. Locke Elementary School held awards ceremonies for all grades this month. Students were recognized for outstanding achievement, improvement, and effort. Special recognition was also given to students with perfect attendance!

Fifth Grade students at Alain L. Locke Elementary are working hard to get ready for their Stepping-Up Ceremony. They have been practicing “The Star Spangled Banner” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” The celebration will be held on June 23rd at 9:30AM.

The fifth grade is studying Canada. The fifth grade had to do beautiful totem poles like Eskimos from Canada. We had to pick five animals for our totem poles and the animals had to be stacked up on each other. I made a totem pole and the whole class did too. [...]

So what’s going on in the art class today? Word around the campfire is that we are drawing our self-portraits as Civil War soldiers. My favorite part was when we got to draw the hair and when we had to glue on the clothing.

In art class fourth graders are drawing self-portraits of our selves as a Native American. I learned how to draw a face by myself. I learned how to draw a nose, mouth, eyes and ears. We drew like this because we are trying to imagine ourselves as Native Americans.

This past Friday students at Alain L. Locke Elementary celebrated the conclusion of the dance residencies at PS 208 and the success of the Content in Arts Festival with a Spring Fling Dance.
Thank you parents for the donations of juice and snacks that made this celebration possible!

Alain L. Locke Elementary School was treated with a special cake made just for us! Neuman’s Caterers donated a beautiful carrot cake featuring our school logo in honor of last Thursday’s Content in Arts Festival.
