 In fourth grade you are able to read at a higher level.  You need a person to share your reading with so you won’t forget what there is to remember about your book.  If you are having those types of problems form a book club.  My friend and I are forming a book club for a book called Roll of Thunder, Hear Me Cry by Mildred D. Taylor.  My friend and I are going to be studying this book and later on you can see how we did on our Accelerated Reader quizzes!

In social studies and science cluster we are learning about the food groups and staying healthy. Ms. Chukwukere has us bring our science textbooks to learn the importance of having a balanced life style. We learn about the vitamins we need to stay healthy. Stop by her room to see our food pyramids on display!

The fifth grade at Alain L. Locke Elementary are working on Feature Articles this month. The work so far is fantastic!  They are researching about Smoking, Sports, Economy, and Healthy Eating.

One of the students (Nyashia) came up with a title called Junk In THE Trunk!  Her article is about eating healthy and the meaning of her title is that people eat too much junk food and that can make you fat!  Who can top that title?  Our feature articles will be on display this April!

This past Friday, Harry K. Wong and Rosemary T. Wong visited Alain L. Locke Elementary School.  The famed authors of The First Days of School came to see the structures set in place at PS 208 during their trip to New York City.  The Wongs had a chance to meet with teachers and students of all grades.

My class has been learning about the colonial times.  In class we have been gathering information about people that lived during the colonial time period.  One person is Molly Pitcher, another person is Phyllis Wheatley. In a few weeks you can see our narrative biographies hanging in the hallway!

Locke Elementary has achieved Renaissance Learning’s Master status!  MasterStudents at PS 208 have been busy reading and quizzing on books throughout the school year and have reached this goal for the first time.  The Carmel Hill Fund Education Program has granted awards that will be used to sponsor trips, purchase supplies, and add new books to the school library.  Congratulations teachers and students!
