During Urban Adventures we went on a cool trip to The Paley Center For Media. Some of us got to do sound effects and the others acted. The teachers there recorded it so now we’re getting a CD and we can share it with our parents. We had lots of fun!

Students at Alain L. Locke Elementary visited Roller Jam USA to celebrate their good behavior.  On roller skates and roller blades, students had a wonderful time!  Follow the link below for video from the event.

From fifth grade reporters Mahmed and Abdoul:

 We got to see a Liberty game in Madison Square Garden.  The New York Liberty played the Connecticut Sun.  They gave us noisemakers to cheer for the Liberty.  They won in overtime.  This was the fifth grade senior trip and we had lots of fun!

From fourth grade reporters Aquiles and Jeremy:

Last Wednesday fourth and third graders went to Queens to see a Mets game.  They played against the Nationals.  We saw someone hit a home run and drank hot chocolate.  We were screaming and clapping for the Mets!

Guess where we went on a Saturday? We went to Harlem Lanes to bowl. Ms Linda, from New York Cares took us there to see what we could do with the bowling ball! At first, a lot of people were getting gutter balls. But then we started to get the hang of it—after we got bumpers. We ate pizza before we left. We had a fun time!

 This past Saturday, New York Cares and several kids from PS 208 went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to do a scavenger hunt.  We saw a real Egyptian Temple from long ago.  We saw a realistic shark that was modern art.  It was so amazing with some cool exhibits!

When we arrived at Turtle Bay Music School there were already a bunch of people there!  I sat in the front row with my friend Chance.  The stage had a piano, drums, a flute and a huge bass.  There was a woman playing the flute, a man at the piano, a man at the drums, and a man at the huge bass.  They played jazz, blues, and Latino music.  At the end, they let everyone play the instruments!

Locke Elementary School visited the New York Historical Society’s exhibition on Lincoln in New York.  Using items in the galleries as primary source documents, students examined and analyzed illustrations and portraits of the 16th president.  Located on the Upper West Side, this museum has many family friendly exhibits and programs.

Third grade students from Alain L. Locke Elementary attended a field trip to the Museum of the City of New York.  Participating in “The Grid” program, students were able to explore the impact of urban planning in their own communities.  Topics addressed by museum educators included the importance of institutions such as parks, libraries, and small businesses.

Third and fifth grade students at Alain L. Locke Elementary attended a field trip to PETCO.  Students were able to interact with the animals on-site and learn about different habitats.  The educators at PETCO answered questions and provided a wealth of information about various reptiles, rodents, and fish.
