Alain L. Locke Elementary hosted a school-wide celebration of Earth Day this past April. Students shared their feelings about Mother Earth and watched portions of a documentary all about dirt. DIRT! The Movie, tells the amazing and little known story of the relationship between humans and living dirt.

Students at Alain L. Locke Elementary celebrated Poem in Your Pocket Day this past Thursday. Each class sent representatives on stage to read original poems during an assembly in the PS 208 auditorium.

April is National Poetry Month. To help celebrate this occasion, the City of New York is sponsoring the 8th annual Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 29, 2010. Public schools, after-school programs, and cultural venues throughout the five boroughs will host poetry readings, and writing workshops focusing on poetry.

Students in the OASIS after school program were recently visited by a special guest from England! London R&B singer Deshi visited students at Alain L. Locke Elementary for a unique performance. Students were able to ask questions about her life as a performing artist.

Alain L. Locke Elementary was the proud host of Dancing Classroom’s semifinal ballroom dancing competition. Fifth graders from all over New York City met at PS 208 to show off what they had learned over the past semester. Our school’s team finished the event with a bronze medal!
