Alain L. Locke – P.S. 208′s Environmental Club Takes A Tap Water Walk

On Sunday, March 22nd, we participated in UNICEF USA’s Tap Water Walk in New York’s Battery Park.

Our goal:  To help raise awareness and support for children worldwide who suffer from a lack of readily available clean water.

We walked one mile to symbolize the distance many people, particularly children have to walk just to get water that may not be drinkable, but is used for bathing and cleaning items. They held water jugs weighing 2lbs to symbolize what it feels like to carry water for long periods of time.

We learned that 4200 children died daily in parts of African and Asia from water related preventable diseases.
